Technology & AI for churches and ministries

Most churches are already using AI. Very few have decided how. I can help you do that on purpose.

Two worlds

I've been a pastor for more than thirty years, twenty-five of them bi-vocational at Living Faith Church. Since 2002 my day job has been in business and commercial technology: building software, leading engineering teams, and running companies. Today I lead engineering for analytics software used in healthcare, where data privacy isn't a nice-to-have. It's the law.

That combination is rare in church circles. Pastors usually know the theology and the people but not the tools. Tech volunteers know the tools but not always the pastoral stakes. I try to sit in the middle and translate.

What I can help with

  • An AI policy your elders can actually adopt. Theology first, then approved uses, prohibited uses, sermon integrity, data, and disclosure. Our church's policy is a starting point, not a template to paste.
  • Choosing tools. ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, Grok, Copilot, and the AI now built into Logos, Notion, Planning Center integrations, and your church management system. Which accounts, which plans, which settings.
  • Protecting congregant data. What may never go into a consumer chatbot, how to set up organizational accounts, and how to train staff and volunteers.
  • Practical rollout. Workflows for communications, administration, and study that save real hours without hollowing out the work only a pastor can do.
  • Teaching your congregation. A sermon, a class, or a leadership-team session on following Jesus in an age of AI.
  • Custom tools. When an off-the-shelf product doesn't fit, I can help you scope something small and sensible, or tell you not to build it.

Who this is for

Small and mid-size churches, rural congregations, church-planting networks, denominational teams, and ministries like ours that run on volunteers. I understand small budgets. A good answer is often a setting you change and a conversation you have, not a product you buy.

How it works

It usually starts with a call. Tell me what you're using, what worries you, and what you hope to get done. From there it might be a single session with your leadership team, a policy review, or a longer engagement.
